We really shouldn’t have stayed an extra day, but the boys REALLY wanted to experience the Galax Fiddle Festival and especially the youth competitions. Sean and Joseph competed in the banjo and mandolin competition. They didn’t place, but they sure did a good job. Then came time for the band competition. The boys had to search for a fiddle and guitar player to join them in their band in order to keep to the rules. They found Adam and Sarah Grace Larkey, from Johnson City TN (13 and 9); and for a fiddle player- 6 year old Carson Peters. He was amazing! Infact, he won the old time fiddle competition! These kids got together, learned one song from each other, had some coaching by the Walker girls and Dad, and off they went to the competition. You can watch the two videos attached here to see how they did, but the crowd went wild! They were given a standing ovation. When it came time to give out the awards, their band was called up as a top 5. Drum Roll… and the names were called off. 5th place- and they still stood there. 4th place… 3rd place… and then they were called for 2nd place. Way to go, kids!
