How Many Shows???

When you’ve seen more than one show of your favorite band, you call yourselves their groupies, right? So get this… two of our groupies have now seen 100 of our shows!  On that 100th show, Will and Kathy took some pictures of this momentous occasion. In’CAR’cerated

“What’s cabin fever in a car called?” I asked on Facebook a few days ago, “Because whatever it is, I have a serious case of it (over 40 hours of driving in 3 days)!!!”

I had some creative answers:

“Trip trauma?”
“In December it’s called Santaclaustrophobia…”
“CarFever… let mama sing you a lullaby!”
“Crazy Train”

(And my favorite)

“You have been in’car’cerated. Heh. I hope you know what that means. :D

We drove 14 hours from Nashville to Kansas. Then 21 hours to Virginia, 14 hours to Wisconsin, on to Tennessee for another 14 hours, and then 14 hours to Florida. Now we’re driving to Texas! Anyone dizzy yet?

Next Big Step

Our producer, Paul Worley’s, eyes were closed at our meeting yesterday; his brows furrowed in concentration. Wally (his business partner) watched us with a grin as we sang them a song Kendra had co-written, “Where Do You Go (When You Can’t Go Home)”. Wally’s eyes twinkled as if he knew something I didn’t know. What was it, I wondered?

As soon as we’d ended the song, Paul said, “That’s a hit song.” (That means it’s good enough to be on the radio!)

Then he said, “There’s a difference between singing and SINGING. And that last part you’ve been exploring. You’re learning how to emote – to put emotion into your music.
“LaRae,” He turned to me, “your banjo is solid and steady. And Alisa, your fiddle has great tone! And Meghan, I love how you play that bass.”
That’s pretty satisfactory already, to hear him complement us like that, but wait- there’s more…
He stopped speaking, then looked at each of us one by one and said,
“You ladies are ready for the studio.”
I wanted to jump in the air and let out a victory shout, but I figured it might be a little awkward since I was holding a banjo, so I just grinned and listened for what Paul had to say next.

“We need to pick a date to record, a budget to work with, and we need to pick our favorite songs.”
It’s finally happening, everyone! We’re ready to record our first Country CD! The only thing we don’t have yet is the funding for everything. All my Redhead fans, come join us in this adventure! Pre-purchase our album and get your friends to buy it. With your help, we can not only record this album, but we can make it Go Platinum!

Homemade Christmas

My sisters and I wanted something different this Christmas season. We didn’t want a mountain of gifts – we just wanted to feel the Christmas Spirit – so we devised a plan. Meghan whispered it to our younger brothers. At first they weren’t sure about it, but when we told them our ideas, their eyes grew wide with excitement. Then we all addressed our parents.
I told them, “We have an idea. Instead of getting gifts this Christmas, what if we gave gifts?”
Throughout December, we made gifts for friends, family and neighbors. We also drew names out of a hat and each of us made a gift for one member of the family.
Take a look at what we made…

Meeting With Our Producer

“Kendra, you killed that song!” our producer, Paul Worley, exclaimed at our meeting a few days ago. “Wow, your voice blew me away.”

She’d just finished singing “Tell Me Why” one of her originals that stemmed from a personal experience. Her passionate lyrics tell the story of a heartbreak, crying, Why?

“Tell me why, you and me cannot be. We’ve tried.

We both know; gotta let go.

Is it you? Is it me? Is it not meant to be?

We can say that it’s love, but that just ain’t enough!

Tell me why-hy-hy?”

“Alisa, the tone you pulled out of that fiddle just made that song wail.” Paul continued.

He shook his head, “You guys have improved so much since I first met you. When was that? Two years ago?” “About a year and a half,” I said. He raised his eyebrows, “Yeah, you’re like a different band.” Great meeting! We’re so excited for the next one. Will keep you posted!

CHRISTMAS TREE

The salesman was so excited, he didn’t even know what to do.
My mom just smiled at him and said, “How ’bout I take the tag, buy the tree, and drive around to pick it up?”
“Great Idea!” He agreed, and that’s how we bought Walmart’s first Christmas tree of the year.
Up on the car the tree went and everyone cheered as we drove it home. Up it went again, this time in our home, and up went the lights. But that was all the decoration we had for our tree. We lost most of our ornaments this year to mold while the boxes were in storage. Staring at the bare tree I wondered what we would do. As if Alisa had read my mind, she suggested, “What if we made ornaments this year?” A perfect plan!
In a less than an hour, the TV was playing Christmas movie classics while Mom, my little brothers and I strung popcorn and cranberries into long, colorful chains. Alisa and Meghan were in the kitchen making gingerbread dough and Kendra was making pies (but the pies weren’t for the tree). Around midnight I told Meghan, “I don’t want to sleep!” “Me neither,” she laughed. I looked at her and grinned, “Do you want to pull an all-nighter?” “Let’s do it!” Alisa joined us as we cleaned and then made cranberry sauce and gingerbread ornaments all from scratch. We finally crashed at about 5 in the morning and finished the ornaments the next day. My littlest brother, Ammon, made a long string of 20 gingerbread men and lay them across the branches as his contribution. Our tree looked beautiful!
A couple days ago, I sat admiring our beautiful tree and how perfect it looked when I realized something wasn’t quite perfect. “What was it?” I thought… I studied the branches; they were all in tact. The lights were all working and the cranberry-popcorn chains were nestled intricately among the branches. Then I saw it – Our gingerbread cookies were missing! I looked around frantically, searching for the culprit. My eyes stopped on Cocoa. That dog! These past couple of days, he’s felt sick and had a severe ear ache… Now I know why. He must’ve eaten 30 cookies!
The cookies are a little higher now and the tree not quite as perfect, but it’s our tree nonetheless… and it’s Christmas.
